Mars Attacks!: The Miniatures Game (LAST 4 DAYS)

Yeah... should have informed you guys sooner about this. But the October month is quite busy for me with convention season, Halloween, and... why am I wasting your time? Let's get on with this.

Mantic Games, creators of the excellent Dreadball, and the upcoming Deadzone, acquired the rights from Topps Trading Cards to make a miniatures game based off the cult classic series, Mars Attacks!

There is currently an alpha rules PDF you can download and try. But here's the rundown of how the game works. The game is played on a 2'X2' board, split into an 8x8 grid of 3"x3" squares. Troops can either move 2 squares, move one square and attack, move one square and play an action card, or play and action card and attack. Action cards are pretty interesting, as they can give you boosts, cause random effects (like a herd of flaming cattle running through the field), or even summon support (like the death ray on the Martian Mothership).

The game has two factions in the base set. The Martians, and the US Military (alongside civilian hero units, which have their own special rules). The Escalation expansion (which was unlocked early on) includes two new factions, the Martian Science Division, and a secret organization called the "Novas Vira". And that's not even counting the flying saucers, giant robots, and mutated insects you can put on the field.

However, the big draw (beyond the license mind you) is the buildable terrain system. This system was first developed for their Deadzone game, and allows players to build and customize their own buildings.

Anyway, if this game seems interesting to you, you can find the Kickstarter here. Keep in mind, there's only four days left as of this posting, so you may want to hurry if you want in.

Also, I wonder how the Angry Joe mini would fit into this game...
